[toc]You’ve probably never heard of San Pablo Lytton Casino. Most people outside of California’s Bay Area haven’t. The truth is, it’s no Caesars or Borgata.

The tiny card room was built on the former site of a trailer park about a half hour outside of San Francisco in 1994. It was converted into a full-fledged casino in 2002. Today, it is stepping up and making some big headlines in the casino industry.

The Lytton Band of Pomo Indians owns and operates the San Pablo Lytton Casino. It already gives up a percentage of its gambling revenues to the small city of San Pablo it calls home. In fact, it’s practically keeping the city afloat. Now the tribe is reaching out to the larger community outside the Bay Area. It’s reaching out all the way to Las Vegas.

The National Center for Victims of Crime announced his week it had received a $500,000 donation from the tribe for victims of the mass shooting in Las Vegas.

A lone gunman opened fire on an outdoor country-music festival from a Mandalay Bay hotel room Sunday. At least 59 people have been reported dead and almost 500 others injured in the tragic incident. Many of the victims and their families that can are trying to put their lives back together. In the meantime, that small Bay Area casino you’ve never heard of is doing what it can to help.

Lytton Tribal Chairperson Margie Mejia explained:

“Our Tribe is devastated by the senseless, horrifying act of violence that occurred in Las Vegas this week,” “It is the Lytton Rancheria’s deepest hope that our donation will help to support the victims of this tragedy as they begin to recover and rebuild their lives.”

“We are also hopeful that this donation will inspire others to contribute anything that they can to assist the National Center for Victims of Crime, as 100 percent of all donations will be distributed directly to the victims and their families.”

The National Center for Victims of Crime is certainly thankful.

“We are humbled by and so appreciative of the generous contribution from the Lytton Tribe,” Executive Director of the National Center for Victims of Crime Mai Fernandez said. “Their significant donation to the National Compassion Fund Las Vegas, as well as those from countless others, will help support the unmet need of victims and their families in the darkest of times.”

This isn’t the first time the San Pablo Lytton Casino have stepped up to help communities in need. In fact, the Tribe says it has contributed more than $18.5 million to communities in need recently.

$1 million for Hurricane Harvey relief

Just last month, Hurricane Harvey devastated Houston, Texas and the Gulf Coast. The San Pablo Lytton Casino quickly stepped up with a $1 million donation to the Houston Mayor’s Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund.

You can do your part to help the victims of the Las Vegas shootings. In fact, you can donate directly to the National Compassion Fund through the National Center for Victims of Crime. Find out how through their website.

You can do your part

Additionally, if you’re in the Bay Area, you can head over to the San Pablo Lytton Casino. Let them know how much you appreciate what they’re doing for troubled communities across the United States.

If you’re so inclined, try your luck at the table games. Play one of the casino’s 1,400 slots. Even if you can’t find a way to win, you can take solace in the fact this is one casino doing something worthwhile with at least part of its profits.
